Wraaaaahhh! He screamed while charging! This doll of hey has met his match! BANG! SMASH! He sliced it in two with his wooden sword and stood victorious with one foot ontop of the broken dummy!

Day 4 & 5
I attracted the "dread" flue this weekend, so unfortunately I missed being on time with Day 4 of Inktober, so im bundling it together with day 4 & 5;).
"Orvill had to hide... hide FAST. They came out at night, eyes glowing red like fire, and claws sharp as knives! They didn't make a sound, but hunted with purpose"
Day 4 - Scared
- "Aaah, this was the life... all he needed was his trusted ukulele and a place to sleep. It was his favorite hobby... after eating and collecting that is".
Day 5 - Relax

"FAST" day 1
Inktober is finally here and I'm super excited:D!
After some back and forth with myself, I decided to visit an old friend from a few years back, namely my children series character, Orvill, the tenacious green owl. I'm going to use the theme LIST which Jake Parker posted last week and draw different scenarios in which Orvill will visit:D
This is the first theme, "FAST".
Ukelele time!:D
A few months back I ordered a Ukelele from amazon, and I JUST got it last week!:D Whohoo!
I always wanted to learn how to play the instrument and although I'm quit musically inept... (just ask my piano teacher), I thought I would finally take the plunge.
I feel it's also important to have a hobby... so many animators/artists think drawing and animating are hobbies, but I think its equally important to have something totally detached from your main passion. Something which can take your mind off and give you that zen feeling when you're having an off day!
So, let me ask you, what is YOU'RE hobby? I think I just found mine;)

Portrait sketch 4
I wanted to make use of my charcoal pad I bought a few weeks ago, because I wanted to try charcoal again (Charcoal was my medium of choice in art uni).
Here is a portrait of Audrey Hepburn, but in the end she kinda doesn't look like her... maybe a little in the eyebrows:P Still, I had a lot of fun working on this one!

End credits
Working on the end credit of my short film, "Rumble in the Jungle"! It also gives me some time to explore some of the brushes in Kyle T Websters Megabrush pack:D. I specially love
the "charcoal brush" and "Rough Inker"
Ps: I'm still not 100% sold on the type, it's okay, but still doesn't fit the film itself, so I might design something on my own...

Almost at the finishing line
Woop woop!:D
I finally (officially) finished the animation for my little animated sketch, which I've been working on for a good year. Usually one wouldn't spend so much time on a 1 minute sequence, but considering I lost 50% of the work halfway through, I'm very happy and proud of the results!
I never thought that a small idea of an Elephant walking would turn into a 1 minute sketch between a Mouse and an Elephant, but I've learned SO much during this process. Everything from pushing the 12 principles of animation, to staging/choreography, to some minor compositing effects.
The next plan is to put it through comp, then add music and sound! After that...
FESTIVALS baby!:D

Caricature 1
" Do you believe in Jesus... Well you're going to meet him"
- Bronson
Caricature was never really my strong suit, or at least not something I usually draw, but I
wanted to delve in and see what I can come up with!:) In the end, I like the drawing but know that I can push the lines so much more...
But again, it was really refreshing to draw like this, it teaches you to pay attention to the strokes you make, and also to study human faces:) Will do much more of these in the near future!

Bigfoot hunters
They say illustrations which connects most with us has a story to them. This is what I'm trying to delve more into, pushing my drawing skills, composition and the story in my pictures. I don't think its a new concept, but I quit like the comedy and dramatic elements in the drawing.
I will definitely try to color this later.:)

Past vs Present
So I re-started this blog almost a half a year ago, when I started to draw more and more in my sketchbooks. I am a huge fan of Jake Parker, and follow his YouTube channel religiously, and in one of this videos he talks about artist growth, and how every artist should "draw every day" to see improvements.
I wanted to try this, and although I fell off multiple times, I've still tried to keep a steady pace of blog updates an managing my social life with my friends!
So I decided to see how much I've improved (and where I've stepped back:P), with comparing past vs present! Woop Woop! I chose the first drawing I posted here when I re-started the blog:

People sketching 1
Some more people sketching at my local cafe. I'm super happy that I've managed to make this a regular event, it really frees your mind artistically, and its kinda therapeutic in a way too. You learn a lot about where you are technically as an artist, the improvements and what you need to work on.
Personally I feel I've gotten more confident in my lines and strokes, but I still feel I look at the people too much. Its better to look ones or twice and memories the rest. :)
Plus, next time I'll try to draw more people from different angles :P

Here be monsters! RAWR!!
I think everyone one of us believed in Monsters when we were young, animators/artists just keep believing it even 'til we're 100. :D
I have the privilege to work with a talented artist such as Tim Dowling, everyone go and check out his art page on facebook here! (you can also buy the book on Amazon) He's SUPER talented, and has made this awesome children's book "The Truth about Monsters".
If you ever wondered how monsters REALLY are , then you should totally get this book, the art is amazing, and the story is super cute and original.
I'll definitely be passing this onto my little niece... after I've read it of course!;P

A good day!
Oooh yeah!!! "I have EXCERSIIIISED the DEMONS!!! Happy day! WOOP WOOP!
Woo... ehm, sorry. But it IS a happy day, because ladies and gentlemen, my kickstarter award for
"Master of Anatomy book 2&3" campaign is finally here, and it looks AMAZING! A lot of controversy has gone into this campaign after the creators hit a snag with the e-books awards (which I also initially applied for), but all in all, this is the next best thing.
I haven't had the time to look through the books extensively, but from what I've seen it looks really good, from all the different artists participation, to the character designs themselves. One of the con's was the thickness of the paper, some said it was quit thin, so you saw the drawings through the pages, although this is true, but personally, it doesn't really bother me so much.
In the end, I'm superhappy that I got to contribute to this campaign, with an awesome payback! If you want to check out the kickstarter, you can see it HERE.
No if you'll excuse me, I need some private time with my books!:P

Chris Oatley and the awesome academy!
So I joined the Oatley Academy a couple of weeks ago, and I'm SUPER excited! Woop Woop!
If some of you aren't familiar with it, its an online school for artists who wants to pursue Concept Art, Comics, Illustration and other branches within Digital Arts developed by the awesome Chris Oatley. I found out about the school, from my friend Kenneth (you can check his blog here ) last year, but I wanted to wait a little before trying it out.
I've only been part of the school for two weeks, but already feel the warmth and support of the community, both from the other artists and the admins and teachers!
I'm doing the "Self taught course", this way I can still work on my other projects and also do the course at my own pace.
I always wanted to delve more into the world of concept art and painting in Photoshop, and can't WAIT for you guys to join me in this exiting new journey!
Here is a small still life which I worked on, in a "Lets Draw Together" session over skype!
More to come soon!

Dynamic posing 1
I saw a tutorial about Dynamic posing, from TheBoxofficeArtist on youtube. If you'r interested, check it out here. I felt quite inspired, and wanted to do some of my own!
I loved doing them they may not be perfect, but they are quick and fun to do! And dynamic posing is something I really lack in my sketches. I will definitily do more of these in the near future!

Character study 19
Morning character study sketches. I love doodling these. The hardest part for me is coming up with new design ideas, and these really helps freeing your mind against the ol' artist block!:)
It also helps experimenting with shapes
Sunday, August 7, 2016
Girl with a bat. Not much thought behind the contrast, but I tried to use the brush pen in a more minimalistic way, also trying to create contrast between black & white.
I always loved the brush pen, it's fluid and creates great line contrasts. But since it's so fluid, I always went overboard with it, be it using to much black until it obscured much of the details or the shape itself.
So I tried to pull back and put the black where it counted more, and I like the result very much!:)

Time lord
Time lord, Augustus Watch. A time travelling thief from another dimension. His age is unknown, which also includes his origin. Maybe he's as old as TIME ITSELF!:O
Anyway, I just wanted to expand on one of my characters which I did in a character study sketch.
More sketches coming soon! I haven't been so good at updating lately, it's more because I had to priorities some other projects.
But I'm back now, and will update something ever day (a huge task, but I will DO IT!:)
Cheers!

TMNT kicks ass!
Teenage Mutant Ninja TURTLEEEES!! Hero's in a half shell! Turtle POWER!! WOOP WOOP! Who didn't love the 4 mutant reptilian hero's, from toys, films, cartoons and comicbooks!
I'll be doing a character drawing of all the main characters of The Turtles. Including the big bad, Shredder, of course;)
But to kick it off, here is, Donatello!
He was always my favorite. Loveable, smart, and the voice of reason.

What is this?!
OOh! look at the computer screen! Is it a virus? Is it porn?
NOOOOOOO... it's my new animated sketch I've been working on for a good while now!:D
It's 80% done, but still needs some work. I plan to also send it to festivals, which I'm super excited about! Will post more stuff soon!:D

What I've been working on...
I haven't been posting any drawings lately, but rest assured, they are coming!:) As a bandage on the wound, I would like to show you what I HAVE been working on.
This is a beatboard for my shortfilm, Obscurum. :D I'm super happy to finally get it up on the wall, and to start "breaking up" the film.
The process is very helpful in weeding out what works and what doesn't. Also to see if the story is coherent enough with only the key moments.
